Vice
Chancellor's Message
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to GC University
Lahore.
Choosing which university to apply to will be the most important
decision of your life. With so many universities to choose from
why should GCU be at the top of your list! There are many
reasons to study at GCU – but the one to consider most is that
you will become part of Ravian fraternity by treading in the
same corridors where the literati, eminent scientists, scholars,
philosophers and Nobel Laureates once walked.
Government College has been stalwart of excellence in the
sub-continent ever since its inception in 1864. It develops
valour among the students to realize their potential for
exploring new avenues of learning and new areas of research and
scholarship. The academic life has been reshaped and readjusted
in accordance with the new responsibilities it assumed when
Government College Lahore was given the charter of University in
2002 and renamed it as Government College University Lahore.
Having a history of 147 years, the university blends this
heritage with innovative excellence in teaching and learning at
Undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The building resonates
with grandeur and ambience. The campus of any educational
institution plays an essential role in nurturing its students
and imparts a sense of ownership and pride in them. The faculty
members keep on striving to foster a culture of learning and
research with an endeavour to produce graduates with requisite
skills and attributes along with comprehensive world view to
serve the community at large. At GCU we offer a wide range of
high quality programmes at various levels i.e. honours, MS/MPhil
and PhD, as well as continuing professional development through
co-curricular activities organised by more than 40 clubs and
societies at university and departmental level. Most of the
programmes provide skills and knowledge that are applied at
public, private and corporate sectors. Focusing on these
attributes, GCU dedicates itself to be at par with international
universities.
The core values of intellectual freedom, diversity,
individuality and creativity underpin everything that a modern
university with a vision and rich heritage does. The research
focused teaching ensures that our students are the recipients of
the best quality education with an effort to make them
conscientious, independent and self reliant in their pursuit of
knowledge.
There have been significant achievements, but in 21st century
these are still not sufficient. We are also convinced that in
future universities will not only be assessed by the quality of
the graduates who have walked through their portals but also by
the quality of its national and international collaborations and
active Industry – academia linkages.
The culture of GCU emphasises on unfolding your potential,
developing a clear sense of direction with its motto “Courage to
Know” and becoming the best you can be in your chosen programme
and GCU is the institution where the students have ample
opportunity, conducive environment, support and inspiration to
excel.
