VICE CHANCELLORS’ MESSAGE

TOP

Dear Ravians,

I am pleased to share some thought with you on the occasion of 140th Anniversary of GCU. It is inconceivable that a college which started with nine students and three Professors in 1864 could become a university in 2002. It required years of patience in the face of hardships, but we have been rewarded. "Rome was not built in a day, so said an Italian poet of the 16th century, Pietro Manzolli; and so say we in the 21st century and so will our children say generations after. Indeed  2002 was watershed in GCU's history.

GCU is now 140 years old, with 6000 students and 325 professors. On this auspicious occasion, we owe a deep debt of gratitude to a long list of liiustrious Principals, Professors and students who toiled ceaselessly to bring this institution to its present position of eminence. The challenge now is to keep our Alma Mater ahead of fast changing world. So we need to educate people for tomorrow. The fact is that the world is perpetually changing and it should be recognized that the change in response to the changing material conditions of life is the real cause of all progress. And nothing plays a more important role in bringing about change than a good educational system.

If social progress is unimaginable without progressive educational institutions like GC University, special measures need to be taken to strengthen them, so that they can rid themselves of the form that is completely out of time and does not match the demands of the new age. The road to future progress will be guided by our vision. We wish to see GC University as a modern, demand-driven, quality conscious, futuristic and affordable institution. Moreover the great ideal of enlightenment embodied in our motto: Courage to Know --- and the rich Ravian tradition shall serve as the guidelines for the generations to come.

We wish to see GCU among the top universities of the world. Given commitment to this ideal and careful planning, this goal should be achieved in the near future. I have complete faith in the ability of my colleagues and the dynamism of young Ravians who can turn this dream into reality.

I wish every Ravian excellent health and happiness

Best Wishes
Dr. Khalid Aftab

These views were expressed by the Governor Punjab, Salman Taseer while addressing the oath- taking ceremony of newly elected executive committee of the Old Ravian Union held in the Bokhari Auditorium of the GC University Lahore. “Any institution from where the common man is barred is bound to end up in ruin,” the Governor added. “1 am proud of being invited in the Old Ravians Union ceremony”, he added.
