Introduction
Education Department has long been associated
with the department of Islamic Studies and English department
respectively. Education as a subject was introduced in 1976 at
intermediate and graduation level in GCU. Mr. Sakhi Muhammad was the
founder faculty member of the department. Mr. Abdus Salam joined the
department in 1982 and remained till 1998. Later on Munir Hussain Shah
and Imtiaz Ali Qureshi served the department. The department has started
working independently in 2007 under the direct supervision of Dean of
Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Prof. Dr. Khakid Pervaiz. Presently
the subject is being taught by Ms. Rubina Murtaza at F.A. and B.A. (Hons)
level.
Education as a Social Science is not only confined to more teaching
learning perspective. It, rather, focuses a wide range of sociological,
historical and normative issues. Simultaneously the philosophical and
psychological foundations also reflect its intricate disciplinary nature
to the students. Qualitative and quantitative research methodologies and
various theories from management studies also make it a unique hybrid
and complex field of study.
