About Us

The SFAO is being supervised by the Dy. Registrar (Academic) Babar Ali Khan E-mail: babar@gcu.edu.pk, also acts as a Focal Person for the distribution of various scholarships offered by HEC and other agencies.

There are number of scholarships available to assist students with their educational expenses on need and merit basis. In addition to the above Financial Aid Committee has been constituted by this University for the evaluation and approval of the applications submitted by the students for financial aid.

One window service is also being provided to the students to avail the scholarship facilities in the Treasurer’s office.

Rules and Regulations

TOP

To receive scholarship/financial aid, the student must maintain satisfactory academic progress toward an eligible program of study. Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) is a set of standards for scholarship/financial aid progress:

  1. Undergraduate Students must maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA

  2. Postgraduate students must maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA

  3. Students who receive an Incomplete ("I") grade or who repeat courses will be ineligible to receive financial aid/scholarship

  4. Students who are placed on probation will be automatically ineligible to receive scholarship/financial aid until they raise their cumulative GPA

  5. Students who receive a failing grade ("F") in all of their courses will be required to repayment of their scholarship/financial aid.

  6. Students who withdraw from University/migrate while receiving scholarship/ financial aid will be subject to a Return of Funds they have received.

These policies are subject to change based on guidelines provided by the funding individual/institution.

Procedure for Scholarship/Financial Aid

TOP

To apply scholarship/financial aid suspension, a student must be able to demonstrate the existence of mitigating circumstances.  Mitigating circumstances are defined as, but not limited to, injury or illness of the student, death of a close relative, or undue hardship caused by unusual circumstances.  The following steps shall be taken in the appeal process:

The student will indicate in writing to the Focal Person/Chairman of scholarship/financial aid committee the reason(s) why he/she did not make satisfactory academic progress and why financial aid should not be terminated.  Documentation to support the appeal is strongly encouraged.  The appeal must be received within two weeks of the date the student was notified of his/her suspension.

Scholarship/Financial Aid Committee will review the appeal and determine whether or not termination of aid is justified.  The student will be advised of the decision in writing.  An approved appeal will allow the student one additional semester on probation.  The committee’s decision is final and may not be appealed further.

PEEF gives Rs1.5m scholarships to GCU students

As many as 23 postgraduate students of GC University Lahore received about Rs1.5 million scholarships by Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF). Prof. (Meritorious) Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman Vice Chancellor GCU Lahore chaired the scholarship distribution ceremony, while PEEF Senior Manager Scholarships Naveed Akber Cheema and GCU Dean Faculty Prof Dr Islam Ullah Khan were also present on the occasion.

GCU VC and PEEF Senior Manager Scholarships giving away

scholarship cheques to students

Addressing the ceremony, GCU Vice Chancellor said that these scholarships help students continue their studies without any financial hurdle. Appreciating Shahbaz Sharif’s step, he said that the other provinces should also establish endowment fund trusts for deserving students. “GCU is the only educational institution which has its own endowment fund trust and it also annually disburses scholarships worth millions of rupees among the students from its own budget,” he added.

Naveed Akber Cheema said that the PEEF’s procedure of distributing scholarships was very transparent and that’s why several international institutes were signing accords with it. Later, GCU Vice Chancellor gave away the scholarships cheques among the students.

France offers scholarships to 90 promising students of Six Pakistani Universities INCLUDING GCU Lahore

France Embassy in Islamabad signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) concerning the funding by France of scholarship for Pakistani Students. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony was arranged by His Excellency the Ambassador of France to Pakistan Mr. Philippe Thiébaud at the Embassy with Chairperson HEC Dr. Javaid R. Laghari as the chief guest. Vice Chancellors of the corresponding universities/institutions participated in the ceremony. This scholarship grant scheme will further strengthen the close and long term bilateral friendship between the Government of Pakistan and Government of France.

In Pakistan, currently, less than 8% of the 17-23 age groups are enrolled in any form of higher education. The “Needs based scholarships program” is one answer to this challenge. This program will enable young people, primarily from FATA, KPK and Baluchistan, to pursue their education in top universities/institutions of Pakistan.

France, through its Embassy in Islamabad, is offering scholarships to 90 promising students of 6 Pakistani Universities. Those scholarships will be offered in the fields of Social Science, Business and Architecture. The list of the universities includes: Quaid-E-Azam University, Islamabad, COMSATS Institute of Technology, Islamabad, GC University, Lahore, Institute of Management Sciences (IMSciences), Peshawar, Institute of Business and Management, Karachi and Sardar Bahadur Khan Women University, Quetta.

The scholarships awards are designed to cover the complete cost of education during the entire academic program of the 90 recipients (e.g.2-4 years for the MBA, BBA & Social Sciences) for a total cost of 23millions PKR. The selection process will ensure that at least 25% of the awarded scholarships go to ladies, especially those coming from areas of Pakistan where the access to higher education is difficult.

Rs 20.127 million scholarships given to GCU STUDENTS

The GC University Lahore first-time gave away the scholarships of a record amount of Rs 20.127 million to the its deserving students besides cutting down its fee by 35 percent. “The scholarships are disbursed during the financial year 2011-12 among 939 needy students, who could not afford their academic expenses,” stated in the GCU Annual Scholarships Report presented by GCU Treasurer Shafiq Mughal to Vice Chancellor Prof. (Meritorious) Dr. Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman. The Vice Chancellor, despite the severe financial crunch and budget cuts, allocated the record amount from the University’s budget and GCU Endowment Fund Trust (EFT) and transparently disbursed it through GCU Scholarships & Financial Aid Committee. The report concludes that as many as 1,243 deserving students of GCU got various scholarships Rs 29.507 during the finical year 2011-12.

The GCU Annual Scholarships Report also states that during 2011-12, as many as 86 GCU students won Rs 0.249 million from National Talent Scholarship and 19 got Rs 0.783 million from HEC Higher Education Opportunities Scholarship, while seven students received Rs 35,500 from Quaid-e-Azam and Mora scholarships. Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal also gave away scholarships of Rs 0.608 million to 19 GCU students. As many as 174 students of GCU were given scholarships of Rs 7.7 million from the Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF).

The report states that the scholarships of Rs 16.05 million were given away from the GCU Budget while Rs 4.077 were given to needy students from the donations of Old Ravians to GCU Endowment Fund Trust. “Budget cuts and no funds –this is what is being done to the universities, but we can’t do the same with our students who are highly talented but cannot afford their academic expenses,” said Vice Chancellor Prof. Khaleeq while commenting on the report.

The Vice Chancellor said that ever year, more than 2000 students apply for financial aid at GCU and till 2010-11 maximum 400 students were granted scholarships. “But, this year we broke all the previous records and increased the allocation for scholarships by 150 percent and also reduced the University’s fee by 35 percent to facilitate students,” he added.

Prof. Khaleeq requested the Punjab Government and Higher Education Commission of Pakistan to provide separate grants to universities for granting scholarships and financial aid to the needy students. He also called on philanthropists and Old Ravians to support the needy students through the GCU Endowment Fund Trust. He expressed his firm resolve that GCU would not leave its deserving students in the lurch and despite all financial constraints it would make all possible efforts to provide financial aid to them.
