hundred and forty years of grandeur, excellence and prestige GC
University Lahore is serving as a beacon house of knowledge and
wisdom. Adding to that, it has become one of the most acknowledged
study spots of South Asia. As an institution of historical
significance, it has produced a number of prestigious and
influential personalities in almost all walks of life.
GC
University Lahore provides students with distinct and huge set up of
Extra-Curricular activities. There are more than fifty departmental
and university level societies and clubs. Hiking & Mountaineering
Club constitutes a prestige designation among the university level
societies due to its active participation and unique nature of
activities. The Club was established in 1900. Since then it has been
working under Sports Board and has been affiliated with Rovers Club.
But now the Club has constituted separate and independent identity
as a university level society.
Since
the inception of mankind, man has been engraving his fate on the
stones of hardship and despair. The great and perpetual endeavor on
man's past is actually an outlet of his innate curiosity to know and
explore. This is what the objective of the Club to guide and train
the students of the University to meet any adventure and challenge
to know and explore things in Nature!

H&MC holds Digital
Photographic Exhibition
Hiking and Mountaineering Club organized a Digital Photographic
Exhibition at the Salam Hall. GCU Nazir Ahmed Music Society Incharge
Tariq Farani and Agha Rizwan Ali were the chief guests at the
exhibition. The GCU HMC members displayed on projector the digital
photographs of historical and recreational places which they have
visited during the last two years.

HMC holds ANNUAL Award Distribution Ceremony
The Hiking and Mountaineering Club organized its Annual Award
Distribution Ceremony to acknowledge the efforts of students which
they have exerted through out the year in the arrangements of
different events. Prof. Dr Ikram-ul-Haq Dean Faculty of Science and
Technology distributed the awards among the students.

HMC holds ANNUAL
photography exhibition
The Hiking and Mountaineering Club (GCU HMC) organized its Annual
Photography Exhibition “Exploring Pakistan” wherein students put on
display personal photographs of historical and recreational places
of the country. Prof Mirza Ather Baig Chairman GCU Societies Board
inaugurated the exhibition.
The exhibition houses the photographs of Noor Mahal, Sadiq Garh
Palace, Shrines in Uch Sharif, Margalla Hills, Rawal Lake, Azad
Kashmir, Derawar Fort, Lal Suhanra, Safari National Park, Banjosa
Lake, Tooli Peer, Salt Mines, River Poonch, Tatta Pani, River Neelam,
University of Azad and Jammu Kashmir
and Rawalakot Airport.

HMC ORGANIZES THREE
DAYS TOUR TO RAWALAKOT AZAD KASHMIR
A
group of thirty students of Hiking and Mountaineering Club organized
a three days hiking training tour to adventurous mountains of
Rawalakot Azad Kashmir from 25th to 27th June, 2010. Dr
Hamid Mukhtar, Advisor Hiking and Mountaineering Club accompanied the
team. The group also visited Banjosa Lake, Tooli Peer, River Poonch,
Tatta Pani, River Neelam, Lipa Ghaz, University of AJK and Rawalakot
Airport. They also met with Deputy Commissioner District Rawalakot.

A group of students visited MARGALLA
HILLS AND RAWAL LAKE
Hiking and Mountaineering Club organized a hiking
tour to Margalla hills and Rawal lake a place located at 2200 feet
above the sea level on April 24, 2010. About 49 students
participated in this hike. All the hikers completed the hike of
about 15 km. Dr Hamid Mukhtar In-charge encouraged the active
participation of all the hikers.

HMC ORGANIZES THREE DAYS TOUR OF CHOLOSTAN
Hiking and Mountaineering Club GC University Lahore organized a
three day trekking training tour to Cholistan desert during 26 to 28
March, 2010. Fifteen Members of the Club participated in the
training program in Cholistan Desesrt. Dr Hamid Mukhtar, Advisor
Hiking and Mountaineering Club accompanied with the team during the
tour.

The team members also visited Noor Mahal, Sadiq Garh Palace, Shrines
in Uch Sharif, Derawar Fort, Lal Suhanra, Safari National Park and
various other places of historical places in Bahawalpur. They also
met the Prince of former Bahawalpur State, Prince Usman Guzain
Abbasi.

109 artists take part in competition on ‘Climb the Mountains &
Discover the Nature’ at GCU
The amateur artists explored the joys of
mountaineering and beauty of nature in their art works at paintings
and posters competition on the topic of ‘Climb the Mountains &
Discover the Nature’. As many as 109 amateur artists various
educational institutions including National College of Arts, Punjab
University, Kinnaird College University, Queen Marry College, Fatima
Jinnah Medical College University Govt. College of Samnabad College
Lahore took part in competition organised by the GCU Hiking and
Mountaineering Club at the Salam Hall. A large number of
schoolchildren including of Crescent Model School, Beconhouse, The
Educators and Garrison Academy also participated in the competition.
Prof. Mian Ijaz-ul-Hassan was the Chief Guest. He appreciated that
most of the artists have successfully created a difference between
foreground and background despite using dark shades in their
paintings. Prof. Ms Rukhsana lauded the imagination and art skills
of schoolchildren, saying that many of them have left the university
students behind.
Later, prizes were given to the winners of the
competition. In school category, Ali Bin Abid of Garrison Academy
for Boys secured the first prize while Hira Tahir of Resource
Academia and Sayed Ali of Garrison Academy stood second and third
respectively. In the university level category Miraj Muhammad topped
the competition, while Amna Baker and Razia Hammed got second and
third positions.
