HOLDS MEHFIL-E-QIRAT OF IRANIAN GROUP
The Islamic Studies and Persian Department jointly organised a
Mehfil-e-Qirat in collaboration with the Iranian Consulate, Lahore. A
noted Iranian group, Twashiq, recited the verses of Holy Quran at the
Mehfil-e-Qirat, which was attended by a large number of students and
teachers.

GCU STUDENT DELEGATION VISITS GURDWARA JANAM
ASTHAN
A 30-member
delegation comprising male and female students and staff of Islamic
Studies Department of GC University Lahore paid a study visit to
Gurdwara Janam Asthan Nankana Sahib. Later, Shakeel Ahmed Bhatti
District Officer Coordination Nankana Sahib on behalf of the local
district administration gave a tea party to the delegation.

GCU LAUNCHES MPHIL IN
ISLAMIC STUDIES
The GC University Lahore has announced initiating MPhil
program in Islamic Studies. The decision was taken at a meeting with
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalid Aftab in the chair. Dr Hamayun Abbass,
Chairman of Arabic and Islamic Studies Department, said that the
two-year MPhil Program would be started this year in September 2010. He
further added that the department of Arabic and Islamic studies was one
of the oldest departments of the GCU, Lahore. Dr G.W. Leitner
established the department in 1864. He was the Professor of Arabic and
the first Principal of then Government College Lahore as well.

Architecture
The
Islamic Studies Department GCU Lahore on Wednesday organized a painting
competition-cum-exhibition on theme of ‘Islamic Architecture’ at Abdus
Salam Hall. The paintings of famous mosques and other Islamic structures
including buildings of holy cities Mecca and Madina and famous Taj Mahal
were put on display at the exhibition by the students of eight
participating educational intuitions. Sobia Naseem of Islamia University
Bahawalpur (IUB) bagged the top position, while Madhia Shah of Defence
Degree College for Women, Lahore and Ifat Sadiq of IUB stood second and
third respectively. Samina Zulfiqar of Punjab University and Mazahar
Naveed of National College of Arts got consolation prizes.

GCU ARABIC AND ISLAMIC STUDIES DEPARTMENTS JOINTLY HOLDS A LECTURE ON
‘IMPORTANCE, NECESSITY OF ISLAMIC STUDIES’
Arabic
and Islamic Studies Department jointly organized a special lecture
titled as ‘Importance and Necessity of Islamic Studies’. The key
speaker was Prof. Dr. Zahoor Ahmed Azhar former Principal Punjab
University Oriental College Lahore. While addressing on the occasion he
said the basic reason behind the downfall of Muslims is that they are
not following the teachings of the Holy Quran and Hadith.
The
speakers urged all Muslims to seek guidance from the Holy Quran and the
life of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in their day-to-day affairs so that they
can achieve successes in all the spheres of life. He further said that
all the knowledge of world is actually the knowledge of Islam.
Dr Sadat
Syed Chairman Urdu department also spoke on the occasion. He stressed
that all students should read the Holy Quran with its translation in
Urdu. A large number of students took part in the workshop.

INAUGURAL CEREMONY OF THE ARABIC CERTIFICATE COURSE
Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies GC
University Lahore has launched Arabic certificate course of three months
duration. In the current session 23 students were admitted in the
course. The inaugural ceremony of the Arabic Certificate Course was held
in the Fazal-e-Hussain Reading Room of the university.
The guest speaker
said that Arabic language is the part of six official languages declared
by United Nation which is significant. Dean Faculty of Arts, Social
Sciences, Languages, Islamic and Oriental Learning said that without
command on Arabic language the concepts and philosophy of the Holy Quran
cannot be understood. Chairperson Arabic and Islamic Studies Department
highlighted the contributions of some eminent scholars like Asghar Roohi,
Faiz-ul-Hassan Saharnpuri, Dr. Zahoor Ahmad Azhar and Dr. Muhammad Ishaq
Qureshi for the understanding of Arabic language in the country.
Coordinator Arabic Course also highlighted the different aspects of the
course.
The ceremony was ended with light refreshment in the Salam Hall.

AWARD”

Minister of Pakistan has conferred “National Seerat Award” on Dr.
Muhammad Sultan Shah. Chairman Department of Arabic and Islamic studies
GC University Lahore on his book “poverty alleviation in the light of
the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)” at National Seerat Conference
2008 held on 21 March 2008 at NLP, Islamabad.
