Arabic Department
holds Naatiya Mushaira
The Arabic Department organized a Natiya Mushaira at the Fazl-e-Hussain
Reading Room. As many as 12 poets from various parts of the country
presented their Kalam at the Naatiya Mushaira chaired by Monthly Naat, a
national magazine, Editor Rasheed Mahmood. GCU Dean of Arts and Social
Sciences Dr. Khalid Perviaz was chief guest at the Mushaira attended by
a large number of students and faculty members.

HOLDS MEHFIL-E-QIRAT OF IRANIAN GROUP
The Islamic Studies and Persian Department jointly organised a
Mehfil-e-Qirat in collaboration with the Iranian Consulate, Lahore. A
noted Iranian group, Twashiq, recited the verses of Holy Quran at the
Mehfil-e-Qirat, which was attended by a large number of students and
teachers.

GCU STUDENT DELEGATION VISITS GURDWARA JANAM
ASTHAN
A 30-member
delegation comprising male and female students and staff of Islamic
Studies Department of GC University Lahore paid a study visit to
Gurdwara Janam Asthan Nankana Sahib. Later, Shakeel Ahmed Bhatti
District Officer Coordination Nankana Sahib on behalf of the local
district administration gave a tea party to the delegation.

GCU LAUNCHES MPHIL IN
ISLAMIC STUDIES
The GC University Lahore has announced initiating MPhil
program in Islamic Studies. The decision was taken at a meeting with
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalid Aftab in the chair. Dr Hamayun Abbass,
Chairman of Arabic and Islamic Studies Department, said that the
two-year MPhil Program would be started this year in September 2010. He
further added that the department of Arabic and Islamic studies was one
of the oldest departments of the GCU, Lahore. Dr G.W. Leitner
established the department in 1864. He was the Professor of Arabic and
the first Principal of then Government College Lahore as well.

The
Islamic Studies Department GCU Lahore on Wednesday organized a painting
competition-cum-exhibition on theme of ‘Islamic Architecture’ at Abdus
Salam Hall. The paintings of famous mosques and other Islamic structures
including buildings of holy cities Mecca and Madina and famous Taj Mahal
were put on display at the exhibition by the students of eight
participating educational intuitions. Sobia Naseem of Islamia University
Bahawalpur (IUB) bagged the top position, while Madhia Shah of Defence
Degree College for Women, Lahore and Ifat Sadiq of IUB stood second and
third respectively. Samina Zulfiqar of Punjab University and Mazahar
Naveed of National College of Arts got consolation prizes.
