20-08-2008 to 27-08-2008. The schedule of written test and
interview will be advertised shortly. Only those candidates will
be called for interview who qualify GCU entry test. |

Admission to M.Phil/MS Degree Programme
Academic
Session 2008-2010
All candidates
interested in admission to MPhil/MS Degree Programme in GC
University Lahore for the academic session 2008-2010 are
required to fulfill the following conditions:
Eligibility
-
They should
have passed MA /MSc or equivalent degree with at least 50%
marks or 2.00 CPA / MA English with at least 45% marks from
Higher Education Commission (HEC) recognized institution.
-
The Graduate
Assessment Test (General) by National Testing Service is
mandatory for admission to MS/MPhil Programme in GC University
Lahore.

GC
University Lahore launched its MPhil Programme in 1999. This
year MS and MPhil Programmes are being offered in the following
subjects to both male and female candidates:
Eligibility Criteria

-
A person having 16 years of education with at
least 50% marks or 2.00 GPA in the relevant discipline from
a Pakistani University or any other recognised University is
eligible to apply for admission to MS/MPhil Programme
-
Persons working in Government/Semi Government
or private institutions may apply. Such candidates shall
have to submit “No Objection Certificate” from the Head of
the Institution where they are working
-
Maximum age limit for admission shall be 40
years, relaxable in special cases. Permission in such a case
may be granted by the Vice Chancellor on the recommendation
of the Chairperson of the Department and the Dean of the
Faculty
-
A “Notification of Registration” of the
candidates approved for admission to MS/MPhil Programme
shall be issued by the Registrar
-
To ensure better student-teacher liaison, admission in
course work of MS/MPhil Programme shall only be granted to
a maximum of 20 students in a discipline on merit
-
The candidate must pass the NTS General Assessment Test
(GAT) before admission or within a year after admission.

Merit shall be determined on the basis of marks actually scored
out of 200
This year the PhD Programme is being offered in the
following subjects to male and female candidates:
Botany, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Clinical Psychology,
Economics, English, Environmental Science, History,
Mathematics, Persian, Philosophy, Physics, Political
Science, Psychology, Statistics, Urdu and Zoology.
Eligibility for PhD Admissions
TOP

A person holding MPhil/MS/Equivalent
Degree in the relevant discipline is eligible for
admission to PhD Programme if he/she possesses at least
3.00 GPA (In case he/she has studied in Semester System)
or 1st Division (In case he/she has studied
in Annual System) in his/her MPhil/MS/Equivalent Degree
from an Institution/University recognised in Pakistan

A candidate has to qualify a Subject GRE
International/Local (GAT/GCU) Test whichever is
applicable for admission to PhD Programme. However,
he/she can get provisional admission as a special case
but will have to qualify the Subject GRE
International/Local (GAT/GCU) Test whichever is
applicable, before approval of Research Synopsis from
Advanced Studies and Research Board

Admission to PhD shall not be open for
‘non-subject’ candidates. However the criterion of
related subject/field for eligibility shall be
determined by the Academic Committee of the concerned
Department

Registration and Commencement of PhD Programme

All the applications for admission to PhD Programme
shall be submitted in the Registrar’s Office (Deputy
Registrar Academic). The Registrar shall pass on the
applications to the chairperson of the concerned
Department who shall get the eligibility of the
candidates assessed from the Departmental Academic
Committee and this Committee would also consider the
feasibility of admission taking into consideration the
availability of the supervisors and facilities, etc.

Each candidate for the PhD Programme shall submit a
declaration to the effect:
-
That he/she has not been registered for the similar
Degree elsewhere contemporaneously.
-
That no direct major work has already been done by
him/her or by anybody else on the topic he/she
intends to work on, for PhD Degree.
-
That the work he/she shall submit for the PhD Degree
has not already been submitted elsewhere and shall
not in future be submitted by him/her for obtaining
similar Degree from any other institution.
i. Qualifying International GRE (subject)/Local (GAT/GCU)
Test (whichever is applicable)
ii. Completion of 18 credit hours course work.
iii. Approval of the Research
Synopsis for PhD thesis by the Departmental Board of Studies
and Advanced Studies and Research Board.
Thesis for PhD Degree
TOP
A student will be given three years for completion of his/her
thesis for PhD starting from the date of his/her provisional
admission. An extension of two more years will be given in case
of non-completion or rejection of PhD thesis.
A research paper on the topic of PhD thesis must be accepted
/published in a HEC approved journal before the Viva Voce
Examination.

MPhil/MS Degree Programme
-
MS/MPhil Degree Programme is of 2 years' duration, divided
into 4 semesters.
-
There will be Course Work of at least 24 credit hours in the
first Academic Year, (i.e Semester-I and Semester-II).
-
There will be Thesis of 12 credit hours during the second
Academic Year (i.e. Semester-III and Semester-IV).
-
The maximum duration allowed to a student
for the completion of Course Work of MS/MPhil is 2 years
from the date of first admission.
-
A student of MS/MPhil will be given 1 year
for the completion of Thesis. An extension of 1 more year
may be given in case of non submission, or rejection of
Thesis.
-
A student has to complete at least 36
credit hours' study, out of which 12 credit hours are of
Thesis, for the completion of the Degree.
-
He/she has to score 2.50 CGPA at the end
of the Programme for the award of the Degree.
PhD Degree Programme
-
There shall be Course Work of 18 credit hours followed by a
Comprehensive Examination.
-
A student will be given 3 years for the completion of
his/her Thesis for PhD, starting from the date of his/her
provisional admission. An extension of 2 more years will be
given in case of non-completion or rejection of PhD Thesis.

A research paper on the topic of the PhD Thesis must be
