Department of Mass Communication

Introduction

TOP

Journalism was introduced as an elective subject at the undergraduate level by the Department of Political Science in 1987. When Government College Lahore was awarded the status of a University in 2002, the nomenclature of the subject was changed to Mass Communication. In September 2007, the Department of Mass Communication was established under the supervision of the Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

The Department of Mass Communication has ambitious goals and thus has close proximity with the media industry. By keeping in view the importance of its applied nature the Department is committed to provide various opportunities to students to have hands-on experience.

The mission of Department of Mass Communication is to pursue excellence. The department is committed:

  • To produce graduates in the discipline of mass communication with good communication skills and up-dated knowledge.

  • To produce good Sub-Editors and Reporters by training them theoretically in the lecture room and practically in media.

  • To equip the students with the time demanded media production and IT skills to meet the demand of the electronic and print media organizations.

  • To produce Media Planner and Account Executives for Advertising Agencies.

By keeping in view the practical needs of students the department has also established Young Journalists’ Society (YJS).
