Million donation to Endowment Fund Trust GCU Lahore
Endowment Fund
Trust GC University Lahore hosted an iftar dinner. Chief Justice Lahore
High Court Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif while addressing the ceremony
said there was no country like Pakistan in the world and we should
discharge our duties honestly and solidarity. He said that our strong
Army was helping the nation and we are proud on it. He also appreciated the
efforts of Endowment Fund for a noble cause of extending financial
support to deserving and needy students.
On the occasion,
the Vice Chancellor GC University Lahore Prof. Dr. Khalid Aftab said
that modern education is our top priority and we are spending a lot for
its promotion. He said that for the betterment of GC University, we had
to increase our resources for producing quality education. On the
occasion, the President Endowment Fund Trust, Iqbal Z. Ahmed said that
under the leadership of Dr. Khalid Aftab GCU was promoting quality
education. He said that in this year we would try to collect 500 million
rupees for Endowment Fund
Trust which would be spent on developmental projects and needy students.
He himself donated one million rupees for the fund. Secretary Executive
committee Endowment Fund Trust Khalid Manzoor Butt said that the
accumulated funds would be utilized for deserving students and
developmental projects in the GCU. About 8 million donations accumulated
on this occasion. GCU Mian Muzafer Ali (president Lahore chamber of
commerce), M/S Bank Al Habib, M/S Allied Bank limited, Saeed-ul-Hassan,
Iqbal Z Ahmed donated golden scholarship amount of one million rupees
while Mian Misbah-ur-Rehman, Akhtar Noorani and Tariq Sufi donated
silver scholarship of rupees 500 thousand. At end the chief guest
distributed souvenirs among the donors.

GCU STUDENTS SECURE TOP SEVEN POSITIONS IN BISE INTER
EXAMINATIONS 2009
Board of
Intermediate and Secondary Education Lahore has announced the results of
Intermediate Examination 2009 with over all pass percentage standing at
53.95. As many
as 68,639 students out of 127,231 passed the Intermediate Examination
2009. The overall top position was secured by Muhammad Akram Karimi of
the Government College University (GCU), Lahore, (Roll No 18564) by
scoring 1036 marks out of total 1100 marks.
The students from
GC University Lahore showed tremendous performance shined in various
groups by achieving top seven positions including an overall top
position in the examination 2009. Muhammad Akram Karimi of GC University
Lahore got overall first position by scoring 1036 marks in Pre
Engineering group, while Haris Zia and Abdul Rafay remained first by
scoring 1005 marks respectively in Pre Medical group. In General Science
group GC University got all three positions. Saad Ahmad got first
position with 983 marks, while Muhammad Abdul Basit remained second
scoring 958 marks and Muhammad Absar Iftikhar got third position and
scored 949 marks.

Aftab, Vice Chancellor GC University Lahore said that all our efforts
were to transform GCU into a world class academic institution which could
continue its role in the nation’s progress like its glorious historic
perspective and academic ambiance. Congratulating the students, the Vice
Chancellor eulogized the outstanding performance of the GCU students and
said that it was an honour for the University for having its students
achieving academic excellence. He further said that GCU Lahore had the
conductive academic environment and the students had demonstrated their
skills in their respective professions after completing their studies
from the GC University. The Vice Chancellor appreciated the role of
parents and teachers in providing guidance to these high achievers.

VISITS Center for Advanced Studies in Physics GC University
Dr. Samar
Mubarakmand a distinguished old Ravian and Member Planning and
Development Division (Science and Technology) and Dr. Muhammad Asharf
Moten Senior Chief (S&T) visited the High-Tension Laboratory of Center
for Advanced Studies in Physics (CASP) The two-member team along with
Dr. Nisar Ahmad Professor Dr. Rafi M. Chaudhry Chair, Prof. Dr. Ijaz
Mujtaba Ghauri Director CASP and Dr. Riaz Ahmad Chairperson Physics
Department visited the various section of High-Tension Laboratory and
observed the working and research environment of the lab. Both guest
scientists also saw the performance of the Pelletron Accelerator and
appreciated the research activities of the lab. They also met the Vice
Chancellor GCU and discussed various research related issues. He thanked
the team of scientists for taking interest in educational research
oriented activities.

Vice Chancellor GC UNIVERSITY Lahore stressed education cooperation with
SAARAC COUNTRIES
A certificate distribution ceremony among the students of
documentary-making course, hailing from South Asia including India,
Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, Maldives, Bhutan and Afghanistan, was held
at South Asian Media School (SAMS) on Saturday. GC University Vice
Chancellor Prof. Dr Khalid Aftab congratulated the students on
successfully completing the documentary course at SAMS. He said the
subject and its treatment at the hands of the students during the making
of various documentaries was really praiseworthy. Importance and
relevance of the creative art in the present day can not be ignored, he
said, adding the entire world is holding de bates on the role of
knowledge and education as well on the socio-economic development. He
said the SAARC countries had been facing immense fundamental problems
due to poor and substandard educational level. He stressed inter-region
education cooperation and co ordination for socio-economic development
in the region. He said the people, hailing from the SAARC countries, had
had less frequent interaction. He urged the people of the region to
enhance cooperation, inter action and coordination for development and
betterment of the downtrodden and poverty- stricken people. He also
proposed the SAARC countries’ educational institutions to pool their
resources, as the universities and other educational institutions around
the world were doing for dispensation of standard knowledge and better
education to the students. He hoped the SAFMA would continue making
efforts for enhancement of knowledge and creative art among the South
Asian students in the future as well.

The GC University Lahore invites consultants for preparation
of Academic Feasibility Study for its New Campus being built at Kala Shah
Kaku. The major objectives of the study are to identify the market driven
and futuristic academic programmes so that the Campus and its buildings are
appropriately designed in the Detailed Master Plan of the New Campus and
meet their requirements with reference to classrooms, laboratories, faculty
rooms, supporting facilities, etc.
The interested firms with excellent credentials and
experience of conducting similar studies and higher education sector
planning & development, may obtain Terms of Reference from Director,
Planning & Development, Government College University, Lahore, on any
working day during office hours or from GCU website. The last date of
submission of proposal is 22nd July, 2009.
