Dr. Mehbub-ul-Haq
Mehbub-ul-Haq Economics Society on Friday paid homage and
glowing tribute to Dr. Mehbub-ul-Haq an eminent Old Ravian
and world renowned development economist. Mrs. Khadija Haq,

and the wife of Mehbub-ul-Haq, graced the seminar with her
presence as the chief guest. Prof. Dr. Khalid Pervaiz, Dr.
Hafeez Pasha, Dr. Ijaz Nabi, Iqbal Raza and Asif Saeed also

Dr. Mehbub-ul-Haq in the realm of development economics. The
faculty members and students from Lahore College for Women
University and Kinnaird College also attended the seminar.
Mrs. Khadija Haq shared many incidents from Dr. Haq’s life
which prove his intellectual courage, daring intelligence
creativity and his devotion towards people who are unvoiced,
marginalized and suppressed. She said that many times Dr.
Haq raised issues of human development but he always
confronted by political games. She quoted Dr. Haq; “Human
destiny is by choice not by chance”. She concluded her
address by saying that the finest legacy of Mehbub is his
intellectual courage.
Dr. Ijaz Nabi said that “it’s a shame for us that we do not
teach the students the books written by Dr. Haq. He also
praised the devotion of Mrs Khadija Haq, saying that “It is
not just a wife paying respect to her husband but she is
also serving our nation”.
Addressing the seminar, Mr. Asif Saeed said that equity,
sustainability; productivity and empowerment are regarded as
important elements of a successful development strategy.
Empowerment requires multiple actions from investing in
education and health as well as reforms in institutional
structures. Countries that pursued this course are able to
achieve these components.
