Department of Political Science

 

Introduction

The Department of Political Science launched its Postgraduate Programme in 1964. The Programme has been replaced by a 4-Year (Hons.) Degree Programme which is equivalent to the Master's Programme. The MPhil Programme was launched in September, 1999 and the PhD Programme was launched in 2008. The aim of the Department is the attainment of academic excellence by means of employing modern techniques of research, with the objective of making the students’ future prospects more lucrative. The main focus is on Political Development and Social Change, Politics of International Economic Relations, International Humanitarian Law, Human Rights, Good Governance and Human Resource Development. During the long history of the Department, the following eminent teachers have served as Chairpersons: Dr. Abdul Hamid, Prof. Ch. Muhammad Rafi Anwar, Prof. Saeed Osman Malick, Prof. Ahmad Hussain, Dr. Sardar Muhammad, Dr. Muhammad Aslam Qureshi, Dr. Muhammad Sarwar, Prof. Rai Hamid Ali Khan, Dr. Khalid Javed Makhdoom, Prof. Farooq Sultan, Dr. Javed Ahmad Sheikh and Mr. Azhar Chaudhry.

The Central and Postgraduate Libraries have separate sections for Political Science and relevant disciplines.

 

Quaid-e-Azam Political Science Society

 

The Society was established in 1970 with the objective of enabling students to participate actively in academic and co-curricular activities. The Society organises seminars and conferences on different topics. It invites eminent scholars from Pakistan and abroad to deliver lectures on current domestic, regional and global issues.

 

Department Consultancy Centre

 

The Department Consultancy Centre provides guidance to students regarding issues related to the Department such as time table, result inquiry and optional courses.

 

Research

 

The main emphasis of all the teaching Programmes is on research-oriented learning. Courses are revised and updated annually and research activities are encouraged. Three Research Centres have been set up by the Department.

 

·        Advanced Research Centre (ARC)

·        Human Rights Centre (HRC)

·        Regional Studies Centre (RSC)

 

Research publication

 

The Department has been publishing the “Journal of Political Science” since 1970. It carries research papers of eminent scholars. The Department provides incentives to staff members and students to conduct research.
