Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC)

ELPS 2008 Program

 

QEC has arranged ELPS 2008 program for newly inducted faculty members of the GCU. The course duration is four weeks and shall commence from 4th August, 2008. The details are as under:-

Course Description:

 

This course is designed specifically for newly inducted faculty at Government College University, Lahore to hone their communication skills in the English Language. This 36 hour intensive course will provide focused instruction in skills that not only make them better communicators in the classroom, but also capable of reporting effectively on the research level; whether making presentations or writing papers. The basic skills of speaking, reading, writing and listening will all be incorporated, but with an academic bias. 

 

Course Objectives:

 

  1. To enable participants to approach language appropriately for performing specific functions and life skills

  2. To increase learners’ confidence in using English

  3. To develop the ability to analyze and evaluate linguistic performance

  4. To help them express, elaborate, clarify, and contend their ideas and views

  5. To facilitate the understanding and drafting of research writing

  6. To teach them how to communicate effectively in seminars and through presentations

  7. To help them understand the structuring of spoken discourse so as to make them efficient listeners

  8. To develop the skills to read confidently for academic purposes

  9. To sharpen strategic competence in face-to-face interaction
