The GCU
Debating Society promotes the students’ skill in declamation
and disputation. Regular intra-College and inter University/College debates
polish the students’ elocution skills.
The GCU Dramatic Club has a century long tradition of
performing stage plays, and continues to be vibrant and creative.
The
Nazir Ahmed Music Society (NAMS) holds weekly music concerts at the
University, where
both popular and classical music is presented by the students.
Various literary circles regularly function in the University where
students engage themselves in literary and intellectual pursuits.

A meeting to review the concepts and strategies for
improvement in the GCU Lahore societies was held in the
Fazal-e-Husain Reading Room Hall of the university.
Chairman Societies Board GCU Prof. Mirza Ather Baig
highlighted the working and performance of the GCU societies. He
described various suggestions regarding improvement in the working
of societies. He said that the societies give a human and cultural
face to all the paradigms inherent in the idea of a University and
in this context they are devices for show casing the vision of a
university in a society. He informed the participants that there are
16 university level societies and urged to promote
inter-disciplinary and trans-disciplinary interaction through
collaboration among societies He suggested that the societies should
evolve both conceptually and in terms of modality to cope with the
challenges posed to a university by the spirit of the changing time.
Prof. Dr. Khalid Aftab Vice Chancellor GCU Lahore
while speaking on the occasion said that the university is striving
to correlate importance to the co-curricular activities with the
academics to help enhance knowledge orientations of its faculty and
students. He said that GCU offers many discipline studies which have
specific links with the industry and we need to improve the
societies and civil society interactions to help promote
inter-cultural harmony. He urged the in-charges of the societies to
enhance their interactions with each other and set higher standards
to improve their performance and efficiency. He also suggested the
faculty to carve out history of their respective departments. He
quoted the recently held various conferences at GCU which got people
from different countries and their participation was as useful as
the local audience, he added.
Dean of Languages Islamic and Oriental Learning Dr.
Sohail Ahmed Khan also spoke on the occasion. and described the
functioning of various societies of the university, especially
Majlis-e-Iqbal. Dean of Sciences and Technology Prof. Dr.
Amin-ul-Haq also attended the meeting besides heads of the GCU
societies were also present on the occasion.
