About Endowment Fund trust (EFT)
A university is as good as its resources. As an autonomous
institution, GCU has to generate its own resources to carry on
and improve the quality of instructions, research work and other
services. The demand for resources increased, since Government
College Lahore became a University in 2002. Funds are needed to
meet the academic expenses of the deserving students and to
build new blocks and laboratories and restore old buildings of
historic value. Universities all over the world seek financial
support from philanthropists and their alumni to acquire a
strong resource based. GCU too, look up to its students, past
and present, to help in building up its Endowment Fund.
It is the basic principle of Endowment Fund that the donated
amount is never spent, only the income earned on investments is
used to give financial aid to the deserving students. It allows
donors to transfer their private earnings to public purposes,
with the assurance that their financial support will serve the
noble and constructive purposes as long as the instruction
continues to exist.
The various permanent scholarships have been initiated by the
Trust with the financial support of the donors. The most
deserving students of GCU who also have good academic record can
apply for these scholarships at the beginning of every academic
session. After scrutiny of documents and interviews of the
applicants, these scholarships will be awarded only for one
year. The ‘Golden Scholarship’ will cover
university fee as well as hostel expenses of the selected
student, however, ‘Silver Scholarship’ will cover
only university fee of the selected student. Name of every donor
with his/her donation is recorded and shown on the ‘donor’s
scroll’ on the website of the Trust. Donation of any amount to
the trust is welcomed, however Zakat and charity are also
admissible for the trust. For ‘Golden Scholarship’ and ‘Silver
Scholarship’ a donor has to give Rs.1,000,000 and Rs.500,000
respectively. These permanent scholarships are initiated after
the names of donors and be awarded every year.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman Vice Chancellor
is the ex-officio Chairman trust, where as Mr. Iqbal Z. Ahmed is
the President and Dr. Khalid Manzoor Butt is the Secretary of
Executive Committee of the Trust. The office of the trust is
situated in the campus. For detail please see the website:

Subject: Appeal for donation
My dear Ravian,
It is a matter of
great honor for me to address you through this letter just after
assuming the office of the Vice Chancellor of the GC University
Lahore on 25-07-2011.
I hope that you
will be remembering your good old days in Government College.
This Institution continues to be not only one of the top
educational institutions in the country but also the oldest in
its 147th year. Such luminaries like Dr. Muhammad
Iqbal, Faiz Ahmad Faiz and Nobel laureates, Dr. Abdus Salam and
Dr. H. Khorana and many more have been associated with this
prestigious Institution which is a matter of honor for all of
us. Due to its consistent distinct performance, the University
status was granted to it in 2002.
A series of
measures have since been taken to diversify its subjects to
include Computer Science, Management Science, Industrial
Biotechnology, Entrepreneurship and SMEs Management, Clinical
Psychology, etc. along with M. Phil & Ph.D. in different
subjects besides widely improving its academic, financial and
administrative discipline. In 2011, the number of students are
about 7600 with 68 disciplines and teaching faculty of 415
including 141 PhDs.
The University is
presently facing a big challenge in view of the current
financial constraints which have seriously effected the national
economy. Our major sources of funds are federal and provincial
Governments. A number of new projects have been planned and work
on them cannot be initiated unless funds are available. Besides,
we have to provide financial aid to our deserving students and
funding to our scholars studying abroad.
In view of above, I
shall be highly obliged if you could kindly contribute to the
development of your own alma mater in an appropriate manner such
as
1.
in cash or kind,
2.
through transfer of any moveable
assets such as car or bus,
3.
immovable assets such as real
estate, personal property, business interest,
4.
provide funding for research of
special interest to you in any discipline available in GCU,
5.
contributing to the GCU Endowment
Fund, a registered trust, which is managed by a Board to ensure
judicious use of funds, and enjoy tax exemptions under the
Income Tax Ordinance vide A/C No. 7781-1, UBL, GC Branch Lahore.
I shall look
forward to your early response.
Best regards,

Prof. Dr. Muhammad
Khaleeq-ur-Rahman
