Playing the traditional music instruments including rubab, wearing the
culture dresses, performing the traditional dance Attanr and peace walk - the students of Government College University Lahore on Thursday celebrated
the Pashtun Cultural Festival on the campus with enthusiasm.
The event was aimed at presenting the beautiful Pashtun Culture to external
world, and promoting social and cultural integration among students.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Asghar Zaidi inaugurated the festival which was
marked by traditional food stalls, drama and live music. However, the
traditional dance performances by groups of students remained the most
enthralling event of the day.
The venue was decorated in traditional Pashtun style.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Zaidi laid a stress on promoting and
keeping alive Pakistan's core values and strong cultural heritage, saying
that the western culture is rapidly promoting because youth are not being
provided such opportunities to understand and promote their culture.
He announced organizing the Pakistan Cultural Festival at GCU Lahore on
March 23, 2021 in which cultures of all provinces and areas of Pakistan
would be exhibited and celebrated with unity.
He hoped that such events would culturally educate youth and motivate them
to preserve and promote Pakistan's culture. He pledged to continue
organizing such cultural festivals to promote love, tolerance and harmony.
Earlier, Pashtun students told the Vice Chancellor that there was a long
story of wars and destructions on Pashtun inhabiting areas of Pakistan. "This war had led to the misrepresentation of Pashtuns and its various
cultural and historical features. Therefore this generation considers it a
need of the hour to struggle for a sort of political consciousness where
the sad part of history is given up and where an actual and just
representation of the community gets its establishment," they said.
