Students throng GCU Career Fair to explore employment opportunities

The first mega Career Fair at the Government College University Lahore on Thursday received an enthusiastic and overwhelming response as hundreds of graduates and final year students flocked to the Fair to explore employment and internship opportunities in reputed international and national companies.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr Asghar Zaidi invited more than 60 organizations to the Career Fair to interact with students on-campus for jobs and internship opportunities. Besides different automobile companies, software houses and clothing brands, a large number of banks, including the State Bank of Pakistan also set up their stall and interviewed the students for the different posts.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Zaidi said that the Career Fair is an opportunity for their students and management of top companies to meet in a relaxed and informal setting, besides it also offers employers a chance to promote their brands, jobs and work culture, while recruiting for open positions.
I want my students to network with employers and understand the requirements of companies i.e., the skills they are looking for in applicants for different lucrative positions, he said.
The Vice-Chancellor said multiple career and job fairs are held in top universities of the world in different times of the year where students are encouraged to meet employers who have part-time, seasonal and full-time positions available.
He also pledged to make career fairs a regular feature at GCU, while appreciating his new team of the GCU Career Guidance and Placement Center.
Prof. Zaidi was pleased to see students of early batches interacting with their potential future employers. "This is the way they can start an early planning of their Career and upskill themselves during their studies at GC University," he said.
The Vice-Chancellor and Chairpersons visited stalls of all companies and discussed with the company executives their recruitment policies and criteria. Prof. Zaidi told company executives that GCU did not only concentrate on theoretical teaching but also laid particular stress on the confidence and character building of its students so that they can perform exceptionally well in their professional lives.
