The Government College University Lahore has formed its first ever Girls
Cricket Club, and appointed two distinguished Ravians and international
cricket players Sidra Amin and Ayesha Zafar as coaches of its female
cricket team.
The announcement was made by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Asghar Zaidi at the
University's Annual Inter-Departmental sports where Sidra Amin and Ayesha
Zafar, our national women's cricket team players, were the Guest of Honors.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof. Zaidi laid stress on
providing equal opportunities to women in all fields of life including
sports. He said students who play sports have higher levels of confidence
and lower levels of depression.
The Vice Chancellor directed the GCU Sports Board to provide equal
attention and facilities to the University's Girls Cricket team and hold
their cricket camps.
Faculty members Sumaira Khalil (English Department) and Kanita Shah
(Institute of Industrial Biotechnology) are appointed as President and Vice
President of the Women Cricket Club.
