21st Convocation – Second Day

Former Minister for Foreign Affairs, Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri, and lawyer and television personality, Syed Naeem Altaf Bokhari, along with two other distinguished alumni were awarded the Lifetime Achievement Awards by Government College University Lahore in recognition of their significant contributions in their respective fields. The awards were presented during the second session of the 21st Convocation where medals and degrees were also conferred to 1265 BA/BSc (Hons) students.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Dr. Asghar Zaidi, presided over the ceremony and also awarded Old Ravians; Prof. Dr. Mahmood Shaukat for his contributions to healthcare and Mirza Athar Baig for his contributions to literature.
Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri, while addressing the audience, emphasized that stability at home is a key factor in the success of foreign policy. “With the sort of division, we have at home there is no chance of any foreign power taking us seriously. I hope this doesn't last for long, I would like to appeal all to all the stakeholders to forget their petty interests for some time. Pakistan has never been through such a period in its history,” he added.
He cautioned that ff the politicians do not put their house in order than they should be prepared for things which they have regretted in the past
Vice Chancellor Prof. Zaidi elaborated on the goals he identified for the progress of GCU. He also shared that they have initiated projects worth over Rs.1.8 billion for the development of the institution in 2021 and 2022. “In 2023, GCU has also received a grant of 5 million Euros from the German Science Foundation for the development and commercial production of low-cost orthopedic implants in Pakistan,” he added.
Mirza Ather Baig and Prof. Dr. Mahmood Shaukat expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor and shared the memories of their student life at the Government College Lahore.
