GCU hosts Career Expo, Minister announces AI centers in universities

A Career Expo was held at Government College University (GCU) Lahore, inaugurated by Punjab’s Minister for Higher Education, Rana Sikandar Hayat, and Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Muhammad Ali. Registrar Shaukat Ali and Career Guidance and Placement Center Incharge Sufyan Bajar were also present. The event aimed to provide employment and internship opportunities to students on campus. 
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali underscored the role of universities in equipping students with the skills required to navigate professional challenges. He noted that over 50 national and international organisations participated in the Career Fair at the university’s Oval Ground, representing key sectors such as information technology, banking, and the armed forces.
The stalls set up by the Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Air Force remained a focal point, attracting significant student interest. Many students also took the opportunity to pay tribute to the country’s armed forces.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Higher Education Rana Sikandar Hayat emphasized the importance of career counselling and stronger industry-academia linkages. He announced the establishment of artificial intelligence centres in all universities to equip students with advanced technological skills.
The minister also highlighted the government’s initiatives for women’s empowerment, stating that their progress is integral to Pakistan’s development. He further announced scholarships and the distribution of laptops to students. Additionally, he informed me that a permanent vice chancellor for GCU would be appointed within two weeks.
