Certificate of Forgiveness Psychology and Practice
Unit of Forgiveness established by the Psychology Department of GCU in collaboration with the International Institute of Forgiveness at Wisconsin will be the first of its kind unit in Pakistan offering a certificate course on "Forgiveness Psychology and Practice" in Fall 2021.

GCU has published 277 research articles in renowned scientific journals between the years 2019 and 2020 with an overall cite score of 3622.

Moving from the margins: promoting and protecting the rights of older persons in Pakistan.

In Pakistan older population has crossed 12.5 million people and it is estimated to double in 2030 and would reach close to 40 million by 2050. It is imperative to respond urgently to the most critical needs of the older population especially. Research work of Vice-Chancellor GC University Lahore provided essential data for the legislation of Senior Citizen’s Act 2021. According to the Act along with the establishment of Dar-ul-Shafqat (old age homes) senior citizens will also be entitled to concessions in medical and dental services, diagnostic and laboratory facilities, and subsidized medicines.

Development of Wolbachia based dengue control strategy to suppress and replace local mosquito vectors from Pakistan

Dengue fever caused by the bite of mosquito Aedes aegypti is a critical infectious disease in Pakistan. Prof. Dr. Nusrat Jahan is working under an HEC funded project worth Rs. 14.188 million to control and replace local mosquito vectors from Pakistan.

Occurrence, Distribution and Human Risk Assessment of Phthalates in Surface Water of River Ravi and Drinking Water from Lahore District

Phthalates are esters of phthalic acid and are used in the manufacture of various plastic products including plastic utensils, plastic bottles, and various everyday plastic products. Phthalates are also exhaustively used in the cosmetic industry and ubiquitous in the environment. The contamination of Phthalates in surface waters has ill-health impacts. Dr. Mehwish from the Zoology Department is working on a GCU ORIC-funded project to establish data for the quantification of Phthalates in River Ravi Lahore and to determine adverse health impacts of Phthalates exposure.

Prevalence and Control of Free-Living Amoebae in Operational Drinking Water Distribution System of Lahore

In Pakistan, every fifth Pakistani Child under the age of 5 suffers from water-borne diseases. According to an estimate, 50% of diseases and 40% of deaths in Pakistan are due to poor drinking water facilities. Free-living amoeba is widely and ubiquitously distributed in the water. Dr. Tariq Zahid from the Zoology department is working on an ORIC-funded project aimed to eliminate the free-living amoeba through different disinfectant techniques.

Statistical analysis of Type-2 Diabetes in Lahore Pakistan

The prevalence of diabetes is increasing worldwide due to aging factors, physical inactivity, overweight, urbanization, and changing lifestyle and food consumption patterns. In Pakistan, diabetes patients have sharply risen to 26.9% in 2017. Dr. Sohail Akhtar from the Statistics Department is working on ORIC funded Project to investigate the prevalence of Diabetes 2 in Pakistan and its risk factors.

GCU is making efforts at its best to improve the Good Health & Well-Being in society through health-related research, collaborations with local, national and global health institutions, and active student societies. GCU was among the few institutes in Pakistan which mandated its staff to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Each year in October GCU organizes various seminars, walks, and events to raise breast cancer awareness. GCU is ensuring a profound commitment to SDG3 through activities of several dedicated societies such as Blood Donor Society, Disease Awareness and Prevention Society, GCU Anti-Narcotics Society, and Ravians Health and Sports Society.

During the COVID-19 health pandemic, a makeshift field hospital of 200 beds was established for COVID-19 patients at GCU KSK Campus in 2020.

Mental Health Helpline For Tele-Counselling

GCU established a Tele-counseling Centre for providing free online counseling services to the thousands of people suffering from depression, fear, anxiety, or other mental health issues due to COVID-19 & subsequent lockdown.

Breast Cancer Awareness

October is the official Breast Cancer Awareness Month marked at the GC University Lahore to raise awareness regarding the prevention and importance of early detection. Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital and Pink Ribbon Pakistan joined hands with GCU for breast cancer awareness drives.

Blood Donor Society GC University Lahore

"Donate Blood, Save Life": is the motto adopted by Blood Donor Society to carry its precious and humanitarian work to save the life of calamity-stricken people. Not only inside the university campuses, but this society is also launching its noble work outside university horizons. At the same time, this society is working in tandem with other humanitarian foundations like Sundas Foundation, Fatimid Foundation and many others as well. The purpose of this noble and sublime body is to make people ready to sacrifice for their fellow beings at the time of accidents, emergencies, and any other incidents in their lives.

GCU Anti-Narcotics Society

Vice-Chancellor took a historical step and established "GCU Anti-Narcotics Society" in co-patronage with Federal Minister of Narcotics Control and Force Commander Anti-Narcotics Force at the "Launching Ceremony of Drug-Free University".

He marked this campaign as "Red Ribbon" which is an international awareness symbol of Substance of Abuse. A special initiative of "Wall of Awareness" was also taken, where a pledge was made to join hands together to make our Lives, Community, and Society “DRUG-FREE”.


Government College University, Lahore in collaboration with Primary and Secondary Health Care Department, Govt. of Punjab, organized an awareness seminar followed by an awareness walk on "Prevention of Smog" on November 26, 2019. This initiative has been taken to raise awareness regarding the prevention and control of smog.

Health & Mental Support

GCU is much concerned about the health of students. Male and female doctors are available at the university health care center for medical assistance of faculty, students and staff. During COVID-19 GCU started Tele-Health Medicine Helpline for its staff and students.

The smog awareness desk by the Environment Protection Society was set on November 02, 2020. Face masks were distributed among the staff and students to prevent the adverse health impacts of smog.

GCU has established counseling services, named "Campus Counseling Services" to help faculty, staff, and students to overcome their psychological problems. Mental health awareness is also in practice in form of seminars, webinars, awareness walks, and dramatic activities. Each year Mental health week is celebrated under the auspices of Dr. Muhammad Ajmal Psychological Society and Department of Psychology GCU.


Sports Culture at GCU Lahore

GCU provides healthy sports culture to relieve academic pressure and to conjure social and psychological growth among students. GCU has state-of-the-art sports facilities that include male and female Gyms, Squash courts, gymnasium hall, table tennis courts, volleyball courts, a vast dedicated cricket ground, and a multipurpose lush green sports ground called the Oval. These sports facilities are available for local, provincial, and national level competitions.
