Swimming pool construction begins at GCU

The construction for 25x21 meter swimming pool on Tuesday began at the Government College University under the auspices of the Punjab Sports and Youth Affairs Department.
The University’s staff and faculty celebrated the ground-breaking at the Cricket Ground where the swimming pool would be constructed at a corner site with a separate entrance.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Asghar Zaidi inaugurated the construction at the site, saying that the total cost of the swimming and fitness club is Rs. 300 million, out of which 100 million are granted by the Punjab government for the current financial year.
He said the GCU swimming teams are champions at the Lahore Board and university-level, but due to lack of swimming pool facility, our Sports Board has to request other universities to provide swimming pool for training purposes.
Prof. Zaidi said that sports had been a prominent feature of humanity since ancient times immemorial; games played in Egypt and Greece had been followed with religious zeal, where the athletic meats were full of grant celebrations.
He pledged that GCU would act as the finest sports nursery for producing and grooming sportsmen for Olympics and national teams.
