The Government College University Lahore has established the Tariq Salman
Khan Farani Center for Music, besides erecting a portrait of the late music
teacher at the University's Bukhari Auditorium.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Asghar Zaidi along with eminent classical singer
Ustad Hamid Ali Khan inaugurated the center named after the music maestro,
the late Prof. Tariq Suleman Khan Farani, for his 50 years long illustrious
contributions for the promotion of music at GCU Lahore.
Musician-singer Jawad Ahamd and family members of Prof. Farani were also
present.
The inauguration was followed by a ceremony, organised by the GCU Nazir
Ahmad Ahmad Music Society (NAMS), to pay a glowing tribute to Mr. Tariq
Farani for his invaluable services for the art and music at GCU Lahore.
Speaking on the occasion, Ustad Hamid Ali Khan said that Prof. Farani made
GCU NAMS the biggest teaching center of music in Pakistan as it produced
galaxy of stars like Shafqat Amanat Ali, Ali Zafar, Waris Baig, Jawad
Ahmad, adding that his two sons had been trained in music at GCU NAMS by
Prof. Farani.
Ustad Hamid Ali Khan proudly said he also sang a couple of compositions of
Prof. Farani. He said Mr. Tariq Farani deserved the Pride of Performance
from the Government of Pakistan.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Zaidi said Mr. Farani was a craftsman who crafted and
shaped up various lives and turned ordinary individuals into great
musicians and extraordinary human beings. He announced to initiate "Khawaja
Khurshid Anwar Medal" and "Tariq Salman Khan Farani Medal" for outstanding
Old Ravian musician and remarkable current student of the University
respectively. He said "if we really want to pay a real tribute to the great
man, we should work every moment of our lives for the glory of this great
institution."
The Vice Chancellor also announced to hold tributes for living Old Ravian
legends including eminent television broadcaster Mr. Zia Mohyeddin,
Barrister S.M Zafar and businessman-philanthropist Syed Babar Ali.
Noted Old Ravian singer Jawad Ahmad said he performed for first time ever
live at GCU NAMS, and it was there he found a singer in himself. He paid
tribute to the contribution of Prof. Farani for the music society of GCU.
Students Advisor Mr. Siddique Awan shared few light moments that he spent
with Mr. Tariq Farani and cherished the time he spent in music society. "Prof. Farani inculcated the moral ethics, values and real sense of
Ravians" spirit in his students and its been a privilege to Know Farani
sahib, he added.
Saban Farani, the son of Prof. Farani, expressed gratitude to the Vice
Chancellor and faculty members for arranging such beautiful tribute for his
father who loved this great institution, i.e. GCU Lahore, throughout his
life.
Prof. Dr. Khalid Sanjrani, Prof. Dr. Saima Irum and many students of Prof.
Farani also spoke.
The students of Farani Sahib remembered his teacher also by presenting his
compositions at the ceremony.
