GCU to recreate its famous clock tower on New Campus

The Government College University Lahore (GCU) is set to recreate its iconic gothic-style clock tower on the new campus located in Kala Shah Kaku.
Federal Education Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain and Vice-Chancellor Professor Asghar Zaidi on Monday laid the foundation stone of the Tower Complex during a graceful ceremony at the new campus administration block.
During the event, the Federal Education Minister expressed his deep emotional attachment to his alma mater, Government College, and acknowledged the achievements of fellow alumni in various fields. He also praised the university's contribution to the country's development and emphasized the importance of providing quality education and skills to the youth.
In addition to launching the construction of the clock tower, the Federal Minister distributed laptops to GCU students as part of the Prime Minister Youth Laptop Scheme, showcasing the government's commitment to supporting students' education and digital empowerment.
The Vice-Chancellor made a special request to the Prime Minister during the ceremony, urging the provision of motorway access to GCU Kala Shah Kaku Campus. This would facilitate easier transportation for students and faculty, and he also expressed gratitude for the extension of the Metro Bus Service to Kala Shah Kaku, which will promote the area as a hub for educational and research activities.
Vice-Chancellor Asghar Zaidi revealed that 11 departments of GCU have already commenced academic activities at the new campus, with two more departments scheduled to start teaching and research activities later this year. The ongoing construction includes apartments for staff and a hostel for girls, enhancing the facilities for both students and faculty.
Additionally, Prof. Zaidi praised the efforts of the education minister in securing funds for the construction of the clock tower.
Rana Tanveer Hussain remarked that any GC campus is incomplete without the Clock Tower, expressing his satisfaction in securing funds for its construction. The clock tower will be designed in the style of the main campus, ensuring a sense of continuity and tradition in the university's architecture.
Later, the federal minister announced on the behalf of Prime Minister that GCU new campus would be provided access from Motorway to facilitate students and faculty.
A large number students and faculty members attended the laptop distribution ceremony.
