GCU, Turkish university sign MoU for student, faculty exchanges

A delegation from İnönü University, Turkiye, visited the Government College University Lahore on Tuesday and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at fostering educational and cultural exchanges between the two universities.
The delegation was welcomed at the University’s Centre for Advanced Studies in Physics (CASP), where they engaged with the faculty and students and visited the research facilities & state of the art machines.
During the visit, the delegation was informed about the rich history of GC University Lahore, which produced notable alumni such as Allama Iqbal, Nobel laureates Dr. Abdus Salam, and Har Gobind Khorana.
The delegation was also briefed about the University’s strong tradition of academic excellence and its previous agreements with the various Turkish universities.
The MoU, signed by Prof. Dr. Shazia Bashir, Vice Chancellor of GC University Lahore, and Dr. Ahmet Kizilay, Rector of İnönü University, primarily focuses on student and faculty exchange programs, joint research initiatives, and the exchange of knowledge and resources between the two universities.
This agreement also underscores the shared goal of strengthening the academic ties between Pakistan and Turkiye.
Addressing the MoU signing ceremony, Dr. Ahmet Kizilay emphasized the deep-rooted friendship between Pakistan and Turkiye, expressing a strong desire to see this cooperation further solidified. “Pakistan and Turkiye are not just friendly countries; they are brothers with a common goal of revitalizing the stature of Muslim nations through education and collaboration,” said Dr. Kizilay.
GCU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shazia Bashir highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts in science and technology. “If Muslim countries work together, we can reclaim our lost dignity and make significant advancements in science and technology,” she remarked.
The Turkish delegation also toured the University’s notable facilities such as the Sports Complex, Postgraduate Library, and the day-long visit concluded with a group photo in front of the university’s iconic tower.
