GCU establishes four new student societies

Government College University (GCU) Lahore has established four new student-led societies to promote academic and cultural awareness among students. The societies, which will be run by the student body under faculty supervision, aim to provide platforms for intellectual discourse, artistic expression, and policy discussions.
According to official notifications issued by the university, the newly formed societies include the Ash-Shadhili Society for Sufism, the Visual Arts Society, the Kashyap Society for Biology, and the Griffins Public Policy and Governance Society. Each society will operate under the guidance of a designated faculty advisor.
Dr. Muhammad Hanif, Assistant Professor in the Department of Botany, has been designated as the staff advisor for the Kashyap Society for Biology. This society will focus on promoting awareness regarding the importance of biological sciences.
The Visual Arts Society, which seeks to highlight the significance of visual arts and their connection to biological sciences, will be led by Mr. Tahir Ali Sadiq, Lecturer in Fine Arts, as its staff advisor.
Dr. Hafz Muhammad Naeem, Director of the Sheikh Abul Hassan Ash-Shadhili Research Centre for Sufism, Science, and Technology, has been appointed as the staff advisor for the Ash-Shadhili Society for Sufism, which aims to raise awareness about Sufism among students.
Meanwhile, the Griffins Public Policy and Governance Society has been formed to encourage discussions on public policy and governance among students. Dr. Muhammad Usman Asghar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Policy, has been appointed as the staff advisor.
GCU Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Prof Dr. Babar Aziz emphasized that these societies, run by student leadership, are expected to play a crucial role in fostering academic engagement and extracurricular activities at the university.
