A photo exhibition titled “Wonders of Türkiye” was put on display at Government College University (GCU) Lahore to celebrate Pakistan–Türkiye friendship. The event, organized in collaboration with the Yunus Emre Institute Turkish Cultural Center Lahore, was part of the Defence Day of Pakistan celebrations at the University.
Consul General of the Republic of Türkiye in Lahore, H.E. Mehmet Eymen Şimşek, along with Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Omer Chaudhry and Senior journalist, Mr. Salman Ghani, inaugurated the exhibition. Featuring around 30 photographs, the display takes visitors on a visual journey through Türkiye’s cultural and natural treasures.
Addressing the Defence Day ceremony, Consul General Şimşek said they honour the courage and dedication of the Pakistan’s armed forces. He added that the brotherhood between the two nations is real and deeply felt in the hearts and minds of their peoples.
He noted that during his short stay in Lahore, he had greatly enjoyed the city’s hospitality, its rich cuisine and spices, and the warmth of its people.
He also encouraged the youth to excel in science and technology, reminding them that the modern world has become a global village.
Senior journalist Mr. Salman Ghani said that the future of Pakistan would be prosperous and secure, and no country would dare to challenge the defence of Pakistan again. He added that Pakistan will always stand with its Muslim brothers and emphasized that the nation must trust and invest in its youth, who will never disappoint.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Omer Chaudhry paid tribute to Türkiye’s unwavering support for Pakistan in testing times. Prof. Chaudhry also highlighted the longstanding academic and cultural collaboration between GCU and Turkish institutions. He noted that GCU is the first general university in Pakistan to launch a BS program in Turkish Language and Literature. He expressed confidence that our future partnerships would expand into joint research and faculty development initiatives.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Eren Miyaşoğlu, Deputy Director of the Yunus Emre Institute Turkish Cultural Center Lahore, expressed hope that the exhibition would bring Türkiye even closer to the people of Pakistan and further strengthen bilateral friendship. He emphasized that the Türkiye–Pakistan relationship is rooted not only in diplomacy but also in shared history, values, and people-to-people ties. The exhibition will remain open to visitors today.
GCU Urdu Department Chairperson Prof. Dr. Saima Irum highlighted the literary and academic relations between the two countries.
